Can a phone kill?
Many explanations are given regarding these phenomena. It most likely boils down to people who want to incite panic. You do not die from answering your cell phone, a text message or a land-line phone. Many of these hoaxes have swarmed Africa and the Middle East in recent years. What is not mentioned is that a popular Japan horror movie was released in 2004, ironically when the lore first emerged.
One Missed Call was a Japanese horror film about a cursed phone call. If you were called from a specific number, you would be killed in two days. In the film, the calls were always dated 2 days in advance. When the victim answered, they heard the screams of their own death when that time has elapsed.
It’s a good movie for fans of Japanese horror, but perhaps it is the true origin of the “death call” urban legend.
