Welcome to Mysterious Discoveries. This is a virtual bibliotheca featuring odds and ends gathered through years of research. Topics include the paranormal, fantastic creatures, bizarre people, folklore, strange events, and a host of obscure—and occasionally macabre—history. Feel free to pull up a seat and browse through history as you probably haven’t heard it.
Much of the research featured here comes from old books, newspapers, digests, magazines, historical records, and other publications of antiquity. Publication dates often range from the 1700s through the early 1900s, and many of the stories, accounts, and curious facts found in these sources have been forgotten for decades or even centuries.
The goal of Mysterious Discoveries is to preserve and explore unusual history, folklore, legends, and accounts that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Articles are researched and written with an eye toward distinguishing documented history from folklore while preserving the old stories as they were told. When the historical record is uncertain, contradictory, or simply strange, that uncertainty is part of the story.
