Burying grounds were discovered in Sparta, Tennessee, in 1828. Unlike the majority in the area, these corpses didn’t belong to the Native American, English, German or any other identifiable, ethnic group. The discovery has fallen out of legend and into obscurity.
The tallest out of every skeleton located was 19 inches in height. Naturally, those exhuming the corpses believed they were simply graveyards from stillbirths or infant deaths. But, on further inspection, the skeletons were found to be those of mature, grown adults. Several of the mysterious corpses were believed to have lived through the advanced years of life.
What is stranger, every corpse in these grounds was buried with his or her head pointing east.
What were these strange creatures? Sadly, we’ll never know as it isn’t clear if anyone alive today, residing in Sparta, today recalls the event.
