General Facts:

The Black Death is a recent term, believed to have been coined sometime during the Nineteenth Century.  The disease was airborne and could be contracted by handling the clothing or personal effects of the infected.

Common names used prior to that were:

  • The Great Pestilence
  • The Plague of Florence
  • The Pestilence
  • The Death
  • The Great Mortality

Suspected Point of Origin: Gobi Desert, China

Life Expectancy of the Infected: 3 to 5 days
