The Brown Mountain Lights in North Carolina have fascinated visitors for decades. The history of the lights can be traced, through the Cherokee, as far back as 1200 A.D.
They have been described as everything from Native American maidens searching for their husbands who had died in battle to wives of Civil War soldiers searching for their dead husbands.
There are no distinct patterns or particular “seasons,” for viewing these lights. They play across the mountaintops in haphazard and random episodes. For years, these lights baffled everyone until scientists decided they were natural gases that had somehow ignited.
Regardless of their origin, many discussions of the paranormal in America eventually get around to these mysterious and gentle lights.
