Fletcher, the old coal tycoon, gained notoriety for the brutality he exhibited towards his miners. He had only one love and legend says his precious Black Diamond is cursed to run the decaying tracks forever. Legend says he’s the captain for the devil in that hellish train. Josie Stapleton and the school’s mean girls learn many legends come from the truth.
Josie is not an ideal student. She is impatient, cynical and thoroughly disappointed to see her new school has the same nepotism and petty politics. After 2 months in the town of Sunnyside, the school’s superficial squad challenges her to a dare. She accepts for her own reasons. They step out onto the Devil’s Bridge and the world changes. Now, at 200 feet above ground, the girls see what happens when legend meets reality.
Josie is left the sole survivor that night and she must find solutions to impossible questions. Her autistic best friend and several new acquaintances help her discover the answers are just as impossible.
